Mount Erie PTA attained the Silver Level for membership (a 5% increase in enrollment by October 25th!). Way to go Emily & Leslie, our membership cochairs, and thank you to all the PTA members for your support.

Please return the form with your check to the school office. Dues are only $10 for an individual and $16 for a family/ dual membership annually. Joining does not mean you have to volunteer for PTA activities but it does show your support. Membership directories were distributed the day before Christmas break and all PTA members received one directory per family. If you are a PTA member and did not receive your copy, please contact Emily Hylton (293-7097) or Kristen Murphy (708-5747). Also, there are additional directories available for $5 each if folks are interested.

It’s not too late to join Mt Erie PTA. If you haven’t done so yet, please complete the membership form at www.mteriepta.org and turn it in to the school office with your check. Mt. We hope all our Mt. Erie families are starting to settle in to the fall school routine with classroom activities, soccer or other sports, and the cooler weather. It is a busy season as we shift from carefree summer activities to fall and all the structure it brings.

In the midst of this, we would like to take a moment to talk with you about joining Mt. Erie PTA and how you can make a difference in the lives of kids at our school. We understand that while some families are available to volunteer for activities at school, some are not due to work or other scheduling conflicts. Please don’t let that deter you from joining PTA!

Being a member of PTA does not require that you be available to volunteer (although we love our volunteers and have a wide variety of opportunities throughout the year). Mt. Erie PTA welcomes you regardless of how much you are able to participate. Your membership matters and here’s why: the PTA membership at our school directly affects decision-making at the state and national levels where policy governing the quality of education is made. A portion of your dues goes toward Washington State PTA to support effective communication with our leaders.

When you join Mt. Erie PTA, you are a voice from Anacortes all the way to Olympia where our state lawmakers consider funding for education and projects which affect our children. And beyond that, you are a voice in Washington, D.C. when our nation’s leaders discuss education in our country.

As a parent, you can stand up for quality education and support our children and our school by joining PTA. Don’t think that your membership does not matter.  It matters to the students and staff of Mt. Erie and it makes a difference when our lawmakers and leaders see how many parents value education by joining PTA across our community, our state, and our nation.

When you renew your membership or join Mt. Erie PTA, you help make the 2010-2011 school year another wonderful year for our students. PTA is instrumental in our children’s education and provides extracurricular opportunities like Missoula Children’s Theater, Science Detectives, Book Bingo and RIF reading programs, and Reflections National Art Competition. In addition, a portion of your dues goes toward sup-porting the staff by providing grants for field trips and supplemental supplies or simply to express teacher appreciation.

As parents, you benefit from the PTA communications via our newsletters and web site (www.mteriepta.org) as well as member directory.  Our children learn to give by example when PTA supports the local levy, donates to clothing drives, and gives to causes such as the Tommy Thompson Trestle or the Tesoro Family fund. PTA members grace the halls of Mt. Erie daily, volunteering in classrooms, the library, and for special events and activities.

Studies have shown that when parents are involved with their children’s education, students perform better in school with higher grades and better attendance. They are more likely to grad-uate from high school and pursue post-secondary education. Children whose parents get involved also exhibit increased motivation, better self-esteem, and less drug and alcohol use. Those great benefits come from parent involvement, a major focus of PTA.

We hope you’ll take a few minutes to learn about how PTA impacts your kids and how you can get involved as much or as little as you like.  We welcome you! Representatives from Mt. Erie PTA will be available before and after school during the first week to answer any questions you may have.
